Scout's Education

Why is it bad that Scout's father, Atticus, taught her how to read?

  1. It is bad that Atticus taught Scout to read because the teacher thinks she is too smart. It really doesnt make sense to me but I guess if thats how the teacher feels then that is how it is going to be.

  2. What happens in schools today if there is a student who seems to be "ahead"? How is this different/the same to Scout's experiences?

  3. If a student is ahead, the teacher would put the child in a higher class. This is different than Scout because her teacher told her to stop learning from her dad.

  4. The reason it is bad is becuase she is ahead of the class so it is hard for the teacher to teach her and the class at the same time. What I mean is she can already read and write but now she has listen to someone read and write letters and she can't even write print until the thrid grade.
